What he wants, what he looks for and why is he buying online. This is the way to start proper affiliate marketing, by knowing what to sell and who should you sell it to. Based on a 5 year research of the ICA (Internet Commerce Association), the main reasons why people shop online are:

  • Laziness - yea, this i think is the main reason. Or lack of time if you want to put it this way. I am a lazy person who does his shopping on the internet (not always but still…). Here you can get all you want in one place. Your computer. And you don’t have to walk. And you get what you bought to your front door.
  • Urgency - people need to find products and information fast, without wasting any time. Online you can do that by simply hitting the SEARCH button.
  • Low Prices - usually online prices are lower than prices in the actual real life shop.
  • High Value Perception - because someone (shopping sites) gather so much information on a product, people will assume that the product is comprehensive and of high quality.
  • Availability - products are available online most of the times, while in shops they may tell you “Well, we don’t have it anymore, but you should go to our other store 100 miles away, they have it over there“.

This is some valuable information for any online shop or affiliate marketeer. Use it wisely, consider what your buyer really wants and your sales will go through the roof.
